On writing in 2018

… or lack there of 😝 As promised let’s get into the reasons why there were significant lack of writing this year. I probably has mentioned this before, but for me, writing organizes my thoughts into something more coherent so that I can progress and plan further into a topic or a certain subject.

That said, first and the major reason is I’m getting married 🎉 Crazy busy, and fucking expensive. But now, most things are coming together, decisions are made, so mostly will just come down to the executions on D-day.

And then, I got into a few things in a fairly quick succession. First scuba diving, I was open water (OW) certified around mid 2017. But got serious into scuba after I have done advanced open water (AOW). And then I was just sucking in as much information I can get on gears, skills, etc. Most of my free time was just scouring ScubaBoard and /r/scuba. Absorbing information and knowledge as much as I can.

Scuba starter pack

From scuba subreddit I found scuba discord, where I first learn learn about discord (which is basically slack for non work related things). The discord was great, it’s filled with the nicest community I’ve seen on the internet. It is exponentially better than the sub.

On the discord, even though it’s filled with divers, most of them are in IT industry or studying IT, so the discussion revolves around programming and tech in general. And in there I have another outlet for my writing. Got a pretty good recommendations for my first gears too. Believe it or not, importing that whole starter pack is cheaper than a single set of decent ScubaPro regulator.

GoPro tray

I also bought and build my first 3D printer based on discord recommendation. Always wanted one, but it’s quite overwhelming if you just jump in blind. Getting free live chat support is pretty neat. And the printer has paid for itself by now. See that GoPro tray above, buying a decent one of those costs about half the price of a printer. Filament costs of printing the tray, about $3. I’ve also printed a goodman handle, these things cost a lot and probably doesn’t fit my hands.

So there we go, so many firsts this past year. I’m also learning to design and modify 3D models with tinkercad. Now, these things are settling down, and I have gotten a hang of most of them. I have enough scuba certifications if I’m staying within recreational limit. All of those along with this very new blogging engine, I’m ready to write more, like a lot more!
